WHAT WE DO

We believe that fitness is central to leading a confident, independent, and productive life. For older adults, an active lifestyle allows them to maintain strength, balance and good mobility, and effectively engage in all functional day-to-day activities. It prevents chronic health problems, including obesity, stroke, and high blood pressure. The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that an aging person should exercise at least 150 minutes a week with physical activities ranging from balance to muscle-strengthening.

At Fit To The Core, we focus on improving the quality of life of aging adults in underresourced communities through functional exercise programs. We seek to reduce vulnerability by providing affordable plans and upport for healthy living and aging. Our fitness strategy is aimed at helping aging adults leverage the benefits of an active lifestyle. Our programs are customized based on the specific needs of the community.

We provide both one-on-one and small-group fitness training through indoor, outdoor and virtual sessions. We offer starter fitness kits and professional training to those who lack resources and access to these programs. We also seek to empower communities by providing educational materials and research to help them conquer the barriers to healthy living and aging.

Who We Are

Welcome to Fit to the Core, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to improving overall health and fitness of people in under-resourced communities. We are an organization that focuses on promoting an active lifestyle among the aging population through our fitness programs. Fit to the Core was established in 2019, just prior to the pandemic, by Tracie VanHook, an executive director and professional trainer with over 30 years of experience in fitness training and functional aging. Tracie is driven to create a world where everyone can age well, regardless of their underlying health, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status. Through Fit To The Core, she has created a team of passionate individuals promoting holistic wellness and building programs to serve their communities
